Govt Allocates Rs61.1bn to HEC for FY25 Projects

Islamabad: The federal government has allocated Rs. 61.12 billion to the Higher Education Commission (HEC) for the fiscal year 2024-25 to implement 159 development projects aimed at strengthening the country’s higher education infrastructure, according to the Economic Survey 2024-25.
The entire amount—Rs. 61.115 billion—has been fully authorized for use during the current fiscal year, reflecting the government’s commitment to advancing education and research in public sector universities and higher education institutions.
By April 2025, HEC had disbursed Rs. 32.6 billion to support various development initiatives across universities. The funding covers 138 ongoing and 21 new projects focused on enhancing research capacity, academic facilities, and digital access in higher education.
Among the initiatives, 26 projects are scheduled for completion within the fiscal year, with funding already finalized for 18 of them.
The allocation also includes Rs. 12 billion for the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme. Of this, Rs. 9 billion has been retained for distribution, aiming to promote digital literacy and improve learning opportunities for students across the country.
