Governor Stresses Women’s Empowerment for Development

Peshawar: KP Governor Haji Ghulam Ali highlighted the tremendous potential for women’s empowerment within Pakistan’s jewellery industry, particularly in gemstone polishing and cutting skills. He emphasised the significant contribution skilled women could make to this sector.

He was addressing the inaugural session of a two-day international conference hosted by Shaheed Benazir Women University Peshawar in collaboration with the Border Rural Support Programme.

Governor Ali urged financial institutions to offer specialised scholarships for female students in educational domains related to this industry. He also announced plans for a collaborative Pakistan-Afghan Expo aimed at fostering business opportunities for women from both countries.

Highlighting the elevated status of women in Islam, Governor Ali reaffirmed his commitment to their empowerment, considering it integral to societal and economic progress.

Governor Ghulam Ali distributed electronic tablets among Afghan female students and stressed the importance of technology in women’s education. He commended the creativity and business acumen displayed by Pakistani and Afghan women in the products showcased.

Addressing the audience, he advocated for a shift in perspective regarding education, emphasising the creation of business and trade opportunities for both genders. He stressed the necessity of granting economic and social autonomy to women, citing it as pivotal for societal advancement.

He also urged for a change in societal attitudes towards women, advocating for respect in all spheres of life. He encouraged women to actively engage in businesses alongside their family members, promoting collaboration and support.
