Gaza: From ‘World’s Largest Open Prison’ To ‘Open Graveyard’
News Desk
Islamabad: European Union (EU) foreign policy chief Josep Borrell described Gaza as transforming from the “world’s biggest open prison” to the world’s largest “open graveyard.”
This statement echoes concerns raised by Human Rights Watch (HRW), which likened the situation in Gaza to that of an ’empty prison.’
Speaking to the media after a meeting of European Union ministers in Brussels, Borrell highlighted the dire situation, stating that Gaza, once labeled as the largest open prison, now stands as the largest open cemetery.
He emphasized the tragic loss of thousands of Palestinian lives, which violates fundamental human rights laws.
Borrell further criticized Israel for weaponizing famine by obstructing humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza’s inhabitants.
However, the EU’s response to the Gaza conflict remains divided, as some member states strongly support Israel while others advocate for Palestine.
This division complicates the EU’s ability to present a unified stance on the issue.
