Rawalpindi: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan has termed the loss of human life in the Pahalgam incident as “deeply disturbing and tragic,” extending his heartfelt condolences to the victims and their families.

During a conversation with his legal team at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi on Monday, Khan criticized the Indian government’s immediate accusations against Pakistan without any substantive investigation or evidence.

Drawing parallels with the Pulwama attack of 2019, the former premier said, “Just like in 2019, when we offered all-out cooperation and India failed to provide any concrete evidence, the same pattern is now repeating.”

He warned the Indian leadership against scapegoating Pakistan, urging New Delhi to act responsibly as a regional power. “India, a country of 1.5 billion people, must act maturely instead of escalating tensions in a region already labeled a ‘nuclear flashpoint.’ Our desire for peace must not be misinterpreted as weakness,” Khan asserted. “Pakistan is fully capable of giving a befitting response to any misadventure, as my government did in 2019 with the support of the entire nation.”

Imran Khan reiterated his longstanding support for the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination under UN resolutions and condemned India’s intensified crackdown in the region following the revocation of Article 370.

He further expressed concern over India’s growing alignment with the RSS ideology, calling it a threat to regional and global stability. “The Indian oppression in Kashmir and the rise of Hindutva-driven politics pose serious dangers beyond South Asia,” he said.

Turning to domestic affairs, Khan lambasted the current government as “illegitimate,” citing alleged electoral manipulation through Form-47. “Despite this regime’s lack of credibility, Modi’s aggression has inadvertently unified the people of Pakistan against Indian hostility,” he said.

Khan also criticized political opponents Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari, alleging they remain silent on Indian aggression due to their personal financial interests abroad. “They fear speaking out against India because their illegal wealth is parked overseas. Their silence is dictated by the need to safeguard their offshore assets,” he claimed.

The PTI leader cautioned that Pakistan’s internal divisions are weakening its national security posture at a time of heightened external threats. “To effectively counter foreign hostility, national unity is essential. The ongoing political victimization and polarization must stop,” he stressed.
