Islamabad/Bahawalpur: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an urban flooding alert for major cities, while the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) urges preparations for potential flash floods in Bahawalpur division due to anticipated heavy rains.
According to the NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Centre, heavy monsoon rains are expected to occur from the evening of August 18 through August 19, with possible intermittent breaks. These conditions could result in significant downpours and urban flooding, particularly in the low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Nowshera, and Peshawar.
The public is advised to stay updated with weather forecasts and alerts. The NDMA has introduced the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert application, available on both the Google Play Store and iOS App Store, to deliver timely alerts, advisories, and guidelines.
Residents in the affected areas are urged to remain vigilant and adhere to instructions from local authorities.
Meanwhile, the PDMA and the Board of Revenue have issued a critical flash flood alert. The alert directs the concerned departments to prepare for possible rescue and relief operations if flash floods occur due to the expected heavy rainfall in the region.
The Flood Forecasting Division (FFD), through Alert No. A-13 (2024), warned of widespread thunderstorms with moderate to heavy rainfall, including scattered very heavy and isolated extremely heavy downpours, across the DG Khan, Multan, and Bahawalpur divisions.
The NDMA and local authorities have directed all relevant departments to implement necessary precautions to respond swiftly to any emergencies caused by the expected weather conditions.
