Five Restaurants Sealed for Issuing Fake Receipts

Islamabad: The Regional Tax Office (RTO) Islamabad has sealed five prominent restaurants in the capital for issuing counterfeit invoices and receipts.
The action follows reports from citizens and consumers about the fraudulent practices, according to a Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) press release.
The enforcement is part of FBR’s ongoing initiative to bring Tier-1 retailers and restaurants under the tax net through the Point of Sale (POS) invoicing system.
Using POS tracking software, the RTO Islamabad team, led by Deputy Commissioner, verified the authenticity of the reported receipts before sealing the establishments. A total penalty of Rs. 1.5 million has also been imposed on the violators.
The FBR recently launched its Point of Sales Prize Scheme on October 25, initially targeting Tier-1 restaurants in Islamabad. This initiative will soon extend to Tier-1 retailers nationwide. Citizens can report fake receipts via the Tax Asaan app and receive cash rewards directly into their bank accounts after verification.
This effort aims to discourage the culture of fake invoices and ensure that due taxes are deposited into the national exchequer. The FBR remains committed to enforcing tax compliance through effective regulation and public collaboration.
