Fire at Azam Market Brought Under Control

Lahore: A fire that broke out at a garments shop in Azam Market’s Rang Mahal area was brought under control by Rescue 1122 firefighters on Thursday, preventing major losses.

According to a Rescue 1122 spokesperson, the fire erupted on the fifth floor of a cloth warehouse located in Karachi Plaza. Firefighting teams responded promptly and successfully contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the building.

A total of 10 emergency vehicles and 35 Rescue 1122 personnel participated in the operation, managing to restrict the fire to the affected floors and saving the plaza from extensive damage.

The firefighting operation was supervised by District Emergency Officer Shahid Waheed. While the fire has been brought under control, cooling operations are still underway to prevent any recurrence, the spokesperson added.

SP Pays Surprise Visit to Hanjarwal Police Station

Superintendent of Police (SP) Iqbal Town Division Dr Muhammad Umar paid a surprise visit to Hanjarwal Police Station on Thursday to review administrative affairs and public service delivery.

According to a police spokesperson, DSP Sabzazar Circle Abdullah Jan and SHO Hanjarwal Adil Anjum were present during the visit. The SP met visiting complainants, listened to their grievances and issued on-the-spot directions for their immediate resolution.

Dr Umar directed police officials to strictly implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) under the Smart Integrated Policing System (SIPs) and ensure effective use of modern facilities to facilitate the public.

He stressed the importance of a prompt response to emergency helpline 15 calls, warning that negligence or carelessness would not be tolerated.

The SP also inspected police station records, applications received at the front desk, cleanliness arrangements, lock-up conditions and safety measures for under-custody suspects. He instructed officials to ensure timely processing of all applications in accordance with the law.

Dr Umar further directed facilitation officers and guide constables to properly assist citizens visiting the police station and emphasised the promotion of modern and smart policing practices over traditional methods.
