Female Internet Usage in Pakistan Hits Record High in 2024

Islamabad: Pakistan has recorded a historic rise in female digital connectivity, with nearly eight million women gaining access to mobile internet in 2024 the highest annual increase to date.
State Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, announced the figures on Thursday, noting a significant reduction in the digital gender divide. The internet usage gap between men and women has dropped from 38% to 25%, marking a substantial stride toward digital equality.
“This progress reflects the prime minister’s digital vision and the government’s ongoing commitment to empowering women through technology,” said Minister Khawaja.
She reiterated that expanding digital access for women remains a top priority for the Ministry of IT, particularly in rural and underdeveloped regions. The growing participation of women from remote areas has been instrumental in closing the gender gap, she noted.
“We are determined to make women equal stakeholders in Pakistan’s digital future. Connectivity is more than a tool — it is a national objective for women’s empowerment,” she added.
