Lahore: Around 109 women die every 24 hours due to breast cancer in Pakistan, with 40,000 annual fatalities and 90,000 new cases, according to Pink Ribbon data.

Statistics further reveal that every ninth women in Pakistan is prone to breast cancer in her lifetime.

In an effort to spread awareness of breast cancer, Pink Ribbon has announced a 30-day awareness drive, involving individuals from grassroots to policy-making levels, commencing on October 1 (Sunday).

This year’s October has been themed ‘PINKtober’, with a different part of the campaign being highlighted each week. The first week to be observed by emphasising the promotion of a healthy lifestyle and informing women about the significant impact of regular wellness practices which can lower the risk of breast cancer by up to 40 percent.

The second week will be observed as mammogram awareness week.

Likewise, in the third week of October, mega malls, numerous buildings and iconic structures across the country would turn pink to highlight the value of early detection and the potential to save countless lives through breast cancer awareness.

The last week will commemorate the worrisome increase in breast cancer cases among young girls in Pakistan and show support for the resilient survivors who are striving to return to normalcy after battling this ailment.
