Lahore: A dense layer of smog has engulfed Lahore, presenting significant health risks to residents on Monday.

Data from the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) indicates that the city’s air quality index (AQI) has averaged a concerning 353 over the past 24 hours, classifying it as highly detrimental to health.

According to an EPD spokesperson, the deteriorating air quality is attributed to easterly winds, lower temperatures, and increased humidity levels.

The spokesperson also warned that these conditions are expected to persist for several days. However, there is hope for improvement, as a rise in temperature and a decrease in humidity during the day may lead to better air quality.

In response to the hazardous conditions, the EPD has issued an advisory urging citizens to adhere to safety guidelines.

Recommendations include staying indoors as much as possible and, if outdoor activities are unavoidable, wearing N95 masks or equivalent protective gear and goggles to shield against pollution exposure.
