Dense Fog Shuts Down M11, Travel Advisory Issued
News Desk
Islamabad: Commuters across Punjab faced major travel disruptions overnight as dense fog forced the closure of the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway M11, with authorities shifting focus toward accident prevention and controlled movement during low-visibility conditions.
Officials said the motorway was shut between Monday and Tuesday night after visibility dropped to dangerously low levels, increasing the risk of pile-ups and multi-vehicle collisions. The decision, taken as a precautionary measure, aims to minimise traffic accidents that frequently spike during winter fog spells.
Beyond the motorway, several stretches of the National Highway also reported thick fog, slowing traffic and creating hazardous driving conditions.

Law enforcement agencies have intensified patrolling to monitor compliance with safety advisories, particularly lane discipline, a key factor in preventing crashes during reduced visibility.
The Motorway Police have outlined specific travel guidelines, advising motorists to restrict journeys to daylight hours. Authorities identified 10:00am to 6:00pm as comparatively safer travel windows when visibility tends to improve.
Drivers have been urged to switch on fog lights, reduce speed, and maintain safe distances from other vehicles. Officials also cautioned against unnecessary travel, stressing that precaution remains the most effective safeguard during extreme weather.
For real-time updates and assistance, commuters have been directed to contact the Motorway Police helpline at 130 as fog-related disruptions continue to affect road networks across the region.
