Dengue Cases Rise in Rawalpindi, Murree

Rawalpindi: The District Health Authority (DHA) Rawalpindi has reported a total of 52 confirmed dengue cases so far this year—28 in Rawalpindi and 24 in Murree—while no fatalities have been recorded, according to the latest hospital surveillance data.

Sharing details on Monday, a DHA spokesperson said that out of 4,398 patients screened, eight dengue suspects were admitted, five of whom tested positive.

Since January, 1,352 vector surveillance teams have inspected over 4.3 million houses, identifying 56,781 positive sites. They also checked 11.4 million outdoor spots, detecting larvae in 11,183 places, amounting to a total of 67,964 larvae detections.

Dr. Waqar Ahmad, the DHA spokesperson, said punitive measures for violations of dengue SOPs and larvae detection included 2,203 FIRs, sealing of 1,230 premises, issuance of 3,520 challans, and fines totaling Rs4.10 million.

New confirmed cases in Murree included five in Murree city (bringing the total to 22), two in Dewal, three in Phagwari, and 12 in Gehal (including two new cases). Other cases were reported from Kahuta City (1), Gujar Khan (1), Rawalpindi Cantt (4), and Taxila Cantt (1).

Hotspot areas such as Pothohar Rural, CTR-14, and R-103-Takht Pari-1 are under intensified monitoring to curb the spread, Dr. Waqar added.
