Rawalpindi: The total number of confirmed dengue cases in Rawalpindi has risen to 994 this year, according to the latest data released by the District Health Authority (DHA).

Hospitals across the district have screened 14,744 citizens for dengue symptoms so far, confirming 994 cases — including 22 new infections reported in the past 24 hours. Currently, 56 patients are admitted to various hospitals, with no dengue-related deaths reported this year.

“Our hospital-based monitoring ensures timely detection and care,” said DHA Spokesperson Dr. Waqar, emphasizing that community awareness remains key to controlling mosquito breeding and halting virus transmission.

Since the beginning of anti-dengue operations, 1,361 surveillance teams have inspected 5,723,535 houses, identifying 181,234 residences with potential mosquito breeding sites. They also checked 1,584,783 outdoor spots such as drains and water containers, detecting 24,514 positive sites and destroying 205,748 larvae.

Authorities have taken strict action against violations, registering 4,509 FIRs, sealing 1,858 premises, issuing 3,521 challans, and imposing fines totaling Rs10.986 million over breaches of standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Meanwhile, on the first day of the ongoing anti-polio campaign, vaccination teams covered 272,696 out of 989,924 targeted children — achieving 28% coverage. The teams visited 207,427 households, marking an 88% reach rate.

“This high household penetration reflects strong field access and operational readiness,” Dr. Waqar added.

He further shared that 54,343 children were initially missed, out of which 28,628 were successfully vaccinated on the first day, showing a 53% success rate in covering missed cases. Additionally, during the out-of-house (OOH) strategy, 76,656 children were administered polio drops.
