Deadly attacks in Balochistan trigger Pakistan-wide response

News Desk

Islamabad: Security forces killed as many as 92 alleged militants during counterterrorism operations across Balochistan on January 31, 2026, following coordinated attacks at multiple locations in the province, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Saturday.

In a statement, the ISPR said militants attempted to disrupt peace by carrying out attacks around Quetta, Mastung, Nushki, Dalbandin, Kharan, Panjgur, Tump, Gwadar and Pasni.

The attackers targeted civilians in Gwadar and Kharan districts, killing 18 people, including women, children, elderly individuals and labourers.

The military said the attacks were aimed at destabilising Balochistan and hindering development in the province.

Security forces and law enforcement agencies launched what the ISPR described as “prolonged, intense and daring” clearance operations in the affected areas, killing 92 militants, including three suicide bombers. Fifteen soldiers were martyred during the operations.

According to the ISPR, intelligence reports confirmed that the attacks were planned and directed by militant leaders operating from outside Pakistan, who remained in direct contact with attackers during the incidents.

A day earlier, on January 30, security forces killed 41 militants in operations in Panjgur and Harnai. With these actions, the total number of militants killed in Balochistan over the past two days has risen to 133.

“Sanitisation operations are being conducted to eliminate any other terrorist found in the area,” the ISPR said, adding that a “relentless counterterrorism campaign” under the National Action Plan’s vision of Azm-e Istehkam would continue to counter foreign-sponsored terrorism.

Meanwhile, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti reiterated the state’s resolve against terrorism.

CM Bugti condemned the attacks on civilians, describing them as brutal and cowardly, and said such acts would not weaken national resolve. He added that security forces effectively confronted the attackers and foiled their objectives.

Funeral prayers were offered for police personnel martyred in the attacks. The ceremony was attended by Interior Minister Naqvi, CM Bugti, the Balochistan Corps Commander, the provincial police chief, and other senior officials. Addressing the gathering, Naqvi praised the vigilance of law enforcement agencies and paid tribute to the fallen personnel.

Due to security concerns, mobile data services in Quetta have been suspended indefinitely. Train operations within Balochistan and between the province and other parts of the country have also been halted.

Railway officials said services including the Jaffer Express, Bolan Mail, Chaman Passenger Train and operations on the Zahedan section remain suspended, while the Jaffer Express from Peshawar has been stopped at Jacobabad. Affected passengers will be refunded, authorities said.
