Rawalpindi: The City Traffic Police (CTP) Murree have implemented a comprehensive traffic management plan to cope with the expected influx of tourists and local residents on Christmas Day.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Murree Imran Razaq said on Wednesday that the plan aims to manage increased congestion, prevent unauthorised parking, and ease traffic pressure in the hill station during Christmas celebrations.

He said more than 200 traffic personnel have been deployed on special duty and stationed at churches, tourist spots, major roads, and entry and exit points of the town. Additional police have also been deployed at sensitive locations to prevent any untoward incident and ensure smooth traffic flow.

The CTO said barriers have been installed at key points to curb illegal parking, double-line violations, and unnecessary obstructions, while dedicated traffic staff will remain alert at major intersections. Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) will monitor deployments circle-wise to ensure effective performance and prompt resolution of issues.

He urged citizens and tourists to follow traffic rules and cooperate with the police, advising them to contact the traffic helpline at 1915 or the control room at 051-9269200 for emergencies, guidance, or traffic-related concerns.

Meanwhile, Punjab Police have finalised a province-wide security plan for Christmas and Quaid-e-Azam Day. More than 30,000 police officers and personnel have been deployed to secure 3,583 churches and maintain law and order during the celebrations.

In Lahore alone, over 5,000 officers will guard more than 600 Christian worship places. To monitor sensitive locations, 2,832 CCTV cameras have been installed, and 4,546 metal detectors will be used at church entry and exit points. More than 1,000 officers will also be assigned to security duties for Quaid-e-Azam Day events.

Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr Usman Anwar has directed police to remain on high alert against anti-state elements and suspicious individuals. Supervisory officers will coordinate with church administrations to ensure smooth security arrangements, while Safe Cities Authority cameras will assist in monitoring.

Commandos and snipers will be deployed at sensitive churches, and Dolphin Squad, PRU, and Elite Police teams will patrol Christian neighbourhoods. Counter Terrorism Department and Special Branch teams will remain active to counter potential threats, while flag marches and search operations will be conducted ahead of Christmas. Female police personnel will assist in screening women citizens.

Churches have been categorised based on sensitivity, with 164 placed in Category A, 360 in Category B, and 3,059 in Category C.
