Convocation: FJWU VC Announces Two New Departments

Rawalpindi: Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) Vice Chancellor Dr Saima Hamid has announced the start of two new departments – Public Health and Bioinformatics – to meet the evolving needs of the region.

She made this announcement during her address to the graduating students at 19th convocation of FJWU held at the Convention Centre, Islamabad on Monday.

At the 19th Convention of the varsity, as many as 3,398 degrees were conferred to the successful graduates and postgraduates in different disciplines. This included conferring 26 PhD, 356 MS and M Phil, 688 Masters and 2332 Bachelors’ degrees.

Over 109 Gold and 87 Silver Medals were also awarded to the students achieving distinction in their respective study programmes. These were sponsored by ‘First Women Bank Limited’, Bank of Punjab, ‘Media Development Trust Mishal Pakistan’, USAID, ‘Sustainable Social Development Organization’ (SSDO), ‘Dr Saeeda Asadullah Khan Scholarship’ and ‘Qudratullah Shahab Gold Medal’.

Dr Saima Hamid congratulated students and their parents, and wished them a prosperous future following being equipped with a productive, creative and inventive professional skill set.

She appreciated students’ hard work, their outstanding achievements and the volume of their parents’ commitment to their education notwithstanding the COVID-19 challenges.

Dr Hamid also highlighted the achievements of the University in the last few years especially during the Covid-19 pandemic when very quickly the transition had to be made to the digitisation learning by which students from far-flung areas could access learning, academic, financial and mental health throughout the pandemic.

The Vice Chancellor further announced the start of two new departments – the Dept. of Public Health and Dept. of Bioinformatics to meet the evolving needs of the region.

The University is already offering 67 Degree programs, under 25 Departments – including 3 Associate Degree Programs, 26 Undergraduates, 8 MA/MSc, 01 MS, 18 MPhil and 11 PhD Program. In 2021, FJWU participated for the first time in the ranking of World Universities with Real Impact and ranked 8th in Top 50 Global Universities in Crisis Management and 101 in Top 200 world universities with real impact rankings 2021.

FJWU is one of the three founding universities of All Pakistan Women University Consortium (APWUC), a forerunner to synergize initiatives for Higher Education of Women in Pakistan.

It is transparent that under the dynamic leadership of the current Vice Chancellor Dr Saima Hamid , the Fatima Jinnah Women University is becoming a national flagship institution elevating  the standard of higher education for women.
