Lahore again tops world’s most polluted cities list
Lahore has once again topped the list of the world’s most polluted cities, recording an alarming air quality index (AQI) of 282, underscoring the severity of the city’s persistent air pollution crisis.
The pollution level falls in the “hazardous” category, posing serious health risks, particularly to children, the elderly, and people suffering from respiratory or cardiovascular diseases.
Experts attribute the deteriorating air quality to heavy vehicular emissions, industrial activity, construction dust, and the seasonal burning of crop residue in surrounding areas.
Unfavourable weather conditions, including low wind speeds and temperature inversion, further trap pollutants over the city, causing smog to persist for extended periods.
