Quetta: Adviser to the Chief Minister on Environment and Climate Change, Naseem-ur-Rehman Mulakhel, said on Monday that the provincial government has implemented the Climate Change Policy 2024 to strengthen environmental management and address growing climate-related challenges.

A sum of Rs500 million has been allocated for the policy’s implementation, Rehman added.

He shared these remarks during a meeting with delegations from various social organizations, environmental groups, and civic representatives.

The participants discussed the province’s overall environmental conditions, the escalating impacts of climate change, and future strategies.

Mulakhel said Balochistan’s environmental situation had taken a worrying turn as low rainfall continues to deplete water reserves across several districts. He warned that drought risks are rising in many areas, while the groundwater level in Quetta is “decreasing rapidly.”

Calling the situation serious, he said the government has initiated both immediate and long-term measures to counter these threats.

The adviser said the Climate Change Policy 2024 would not only help address current challenges but also produce lasting, positive outcomes for future generations.

Mulakhel stressed the critical role of citizens and social organizations, noting that climate action cannot succeed without broad public participation. He urged communities to support awareness campaigns and promote environmentally responsible behaviour.

He also highlighted simple steps the public can take, such as avoiding plastic bags, participating in tree-planting drives, protecting existing vegetation, conserving water, and reducing air pollution by limiting unnecessary emissions.

He concluded that effective cooperation between the government and the public is essential to controlling environmental and climate risks in Balochistan and ensuring a safer future for the province.
