Islamabad: Federal Minister for Climate Change Dr Musadik Masood Malik has described climate change as the most significant challenge facing the world today, calling for urgent and collective efforts to address its growing impacts.

Speaking at an environmental conference, Malik highlighted rising global temperatures and the increasing frequency of natural disasters, stressing the need for effective measures to mitigate the effects of climate change in Pakistan and other vulnerable countries.

He urged the government and citizens to prioritise environmental sustainability and adopt practices that reduce environmental risks. “We must act now to protect our planet for future generations,” he said.

Pakistan is particularly vulnerable to climate-related disasters, including floods and droughts, which pose serious challenges to communities, infrastructure and economic development. Malik’s remarks underscored the importance of developing comprehensive climate policies that strengthen environmental protection while supporting sustainable economic growth.

The minister also announced plans to hold a national summit on climate change next month. The proposed gathering will bring together stakeholders from various sectors to discuss strategies for sustainable development, climate resilience and adaptation.

The summit is expected to focus on building support for initiatives aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s preparedness for climate-related challenges and promoting long-term environmental sustainability.
