Civil Society Rejects Heavy Trucks Entry in Hayatabad
News Desk
Peshawar: The Civil Society, through the Good Governance Forum, has expressed deep concern over recent news articles indicating that the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) is considering allowing heavy trucks and trailers to pass through the Industrial Estate on Jamrud Road, near Hayatabad, Peshawar.
This decision, discussed in a meeting with the Industrialist’s Association of the Industrial Estate, has alarmed residents who value a peaceful and hazard-free environment, stated a press release issued on Sunday.
Residents argue that a decent and peaceful living environment is a fundamental dream for every citizen. In welfare states that follow sustainable development goals, housing townships are designed to realize such dreams.
The PDA initially promised to provide an environment where residents could enjoy a high quality of life. The land was acquired by the authority and sold to residents under this assurance.
Therefore, no individual or group has the right to create hazards that disturb the residents’ mental peace.
The Civil Society places the highest priority on the right to life, a fundamental right that extends beyond mere biological existence to encompass quality of life.
This includes an environment free from pollution, traffic congestion, and other hazards that could harm the residents’ aesthetic experience.
The Civil Society opposes the entry of heavy vehicles into Hayatabad. A separate passage through Achini has already been provided for the industrial estate.
The entry of heavy vehicles into Hayatabad is not only a nuisance, causing damage to roads and traffic jams, but also a violation of the residents’ fundamental rights. Therefore, the Civil Society requests that this entry be prohibited.
Should the entry not be banned, the Civil Society vows to launch an organized campaign, which may include filing a writ petition to enforce the fundamental right to life.
