Citizen Dies of Hepatitis Every 20 Minutes: Experts

News Desk

Karachi: Hepatologists and gastroenterologists revealed on Thursday that every 20 minutes, a citizen dies from hepatitis-related complications.

They were speaking at a press conference held at the Karachi Press Club (KPC).

According to liver specialists, including Dr Labna, approximately 200,000 people in Pakistan are affected by Hepatitis B and C each year.

Despite the availability of free treatment and medication at Civil Hospital, the disease continues to pose a serious challenge due to widespread public negligence.

Dr Nazish emphasized that the government and relevant authorities need to implement a comprehensive policy to address this issue.

Hepatitis Day, observed annually on July 28, serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle against this disease.

Dr Amanullah added that while treatment and medicines are provided at no cost in Civil Hospital, public indifference towards regular testing and preventive measures exacerbates the problem.
