Islamabad: The festive spirit of Christmas has unfolded across the federal capital, with the adorned Christmas trees placed at prominent locations becoming the center of attraction, especially for children.

These colorful and vibrant displays have brought warmth to the holiday season, drawing crowds eager to admire their beauty.

Prominent malls, hotels, and public spaces across Islamabad have joined the celebrations by showcasing dazzling Christmas trees. These displays not only embody the essence of the season but also promote inclusivity, fostering unity and joy among communities.

The Christmas tree, an iconic symbol of the festival, represents hope, renewal, and togetherness. Whether real or artificial, these trees are traditionally decorated with an array of ornaments—shimmering baubles, golden bells, radiant stars, pine cones, candies, tinsel, and balloons—crafted from materials like glass, ceramic, and plastic. A star or angel often crowns the tree, symbolizing goodwill and peace.

Asiya Joseph, a young Christian girl, shared her love for the tradition, saying, “Decorating the tree with family brings us together and fills our home with festive cheer. It’s a tradition that completes the essence of the celebration.”

She added, “In times of challenges, this activity inspires hope and positivity. When we switch on the lights for the first time, it’s magical—the way the tree lights up the room makes me feel the festival has truly begun.”

Similarly, Samuel Gill expressed his enthusiasm, noting, “The Christmas tree is the heart of our holiday celebrations. It’s more than just a decoration; it’s a symbol of joy, hope, and cherished family traditions. Kids enjoy decorating the tree with beautiful ornaments, and their excitement makes the process even more special.”

The season has also brought a wave of activity for local businesses. Decorative items, sweet treats, and gifts are in high demand as families prepare for the festivities. Ali Nawaz, a seller of decorative items in Karachi Company, observed a steady demand for fairy lights, candles, and ornaments.

“The Christmas season is always special. People go all out to make their homes festive and welcoming,” he remarked.

The tradition of decorating Christmas trees dates back to 15th-century Livonia (modern-day Estonia and Latvia) and has since evolved into a universal symbol of Christmas, transcending cultural and geographical boundaries.

The illuminated trees, melodious carols, and exchange of heartfelt gifts embody the true spirit of the season: fostering unity, peace, and goodwill. Standing tall in homes and public spaces, these evergreen conifers serve as beacons of hope, reminding all of Christmas’ enduring message—love, compassion, and cherishing moments with loved ones.

The festival is marked by various activities, including carol singing, gift exchanges, cake-cutting ceremonies, and gatherings in homes and churches. Beyond its cultural significance, Christmas is a time to spread love and joy, creating memories to last a lifetime.
