Christmas Symbolises Peace & Hope for All Humanity: Archbishop

Rawalpindi: Archbishop of Rawalpindi/Islamabad Dr Joseph Arshad on Tuesday said that Christmas was not merely a religious festival for Christians but a universal symbol of God’s boundless love, peace, reconciliation and hope, urging humanity to reject hatred and promote harmony.
In his Christmas message, the archbishop said the birth of Jesus Christ marked the beginning of mercy, salvation and new life for humankind, reflecting God’s wondrous works. He recalled that angels proclaimed glad tidings of joy and a message of peace on earth for people of goodwill.
“Christmas is celebrated as a festival of joy, light, prayers and spiritual fulfilment, which kindles hope in human hearts,” he said.
Highlighting contemporary global challenges, Dr Joseph Arshad said wars, political unrest, conflicts, violence and the growing impact of climate change had plunged humanity into grave difficulties. He added that in Pakistan and many other societies, basic necessities such as food, clean water, healthcare and safe housing remained beyond the reach of many people, deepening uncertainty and despair.
In such circumstances, he said, strengthening hope and becoming builders of peace was a shared responsibility of all segments of society.
The archbishop said the message of Christmas urged people to uphold love, justice, human dignity and social harmony. He called upon the Government of Pakistan, the armed forces, social institutions and all people of goodwill to work collectively for human welfare, national development and prosperity.
He also appealed for special prayers for victims of wars and conflicts, as well as for people suffering from illness, poverty and hunger, urging compassion and practical support for the homeless, the lonely and families facing hardship.
Dr Joseph Arshad prayed that God Almighty bless Pakistan with peace, stability and prosperity, and grant the nation unity, brotherhood and a spirit of service to humanity.
Extending Christmas greetings to the entire nation, he wished everyone the joys of Christmas.
