Muzaffargarh: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has dispatched 10 water tankers and 1,000 jerry cans to Cholistan and Thal desert areas to help residents cope with the looming drought threat. The relief operation has been launched under the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
According to an official statement issued on Thursday, the water tankers and jerry cans were sent from PDMA’s Muzaffargarh warehouse to the respective districts.
Of the 10 dispatched tankers, four have a capacity of 12,500 liters each, while the remaining six can hold 5,000 liters each.
PDMA Additional Director General (ADG) Jawwad Haidar Shah stated that all necessary arrangements were being made in advance to assist residents in case of drought conditions.
He emphasized that the provision of water tankers and jerry cans was part of a broader strategy to ensure an uninterrupted water supply to the affected regions.
Deputy commissioners of the concerned districts have also been instructed to remain on high alert and activate response mechanisms if required. Shah assured that the Punjab government would provide all possible assistance to the people of Cholistan and Thal, as per the chief minister’s directives.
In addition to the water tankers, PDMA has urged relevant departments to maintain active coordination to effectively address any potential water shortages. The agency also appealed to residents to conserve water and avoid wastage.
