Islamabad: Traditional woolen caps from Chitral, Swat, and Peshawar are experiencing a resurgence as a fashion trend, particularly among the younger generation in various Pakistani cities.

These vibrant, intricately designed caps have become a sought-after accessory, with reports indicating a significant rise in demand.

According to a recent report aired by a private news channel, sales of these traditional caps have increased by 30 to 50 percent in recent months, as shopkeepers report growing popularity among consumers. Northern Pakistan’s wool-made caps, once an essential part of local attire, have found a new audience among fashion-forward individuals.

“We carry over 20-25 varieties of these caps, and they’re selling like hotcakes,” said Muhammad Ali, a shopkeeper in Gujranwala. To cater to this growing trend, sellers are also introducing colorful caps featuring cartoons for children, which have proven to be particularly popular among parents.

Motorcyclists are another group embracing these traditional caps, not just for their style but for the warmth and protection they offer during the cold winter months. “I bought a Chitrali cap last week, and I absolutely love it,” shared Amir Khan, a motorcyclist in Gujranwala. “It’s not only warm and cozy but also adds a traditional touch to my outfit,” he added.

To meet the increasing demand, shopkeepers are adapting by introducing new styles and designs. “We are receiving orders from all across the country and working hard to fulfill them,” said a shopkeeper in Peshawar.

Beyond being a fashionable accessory, these woolen caps have come to represent a symbol of Pakistan’s cultural heritage and national identity, making them a hit in both urban and rural markets.
