China, US, & India are the dominating forces in the Indian Ocean: Speakers

Islamabad: The seminar on “Indian Maritime Ambitions & its Effects on the Region and Beyond” was organized by the Indian Ocean Study Centre, of the NIMA, Islamabad in collaboration with the Institute of Regional Studies.

Air Marshal (retd) Farooq Habib HI(M) Dr Rizwana Abbasi and Syed Muhammad Ali shared their intellectual insights.

NIMA DG Vice Admiral (retd) Abdul Aleem HI(M) highlighted the significance of the seminar regarding the Indian maritime ambitions and its effects on the region and beyond. Syed Muhammad Ali explained liberalization, modernization, and urbanization of the Indian Ocean.

Air Marshal (retd) Farooq Habib HI(M) stated fear, interests and honour are the policy cardinals of Indian Maritime Interests in IOR, which is reflected in the expansion of the Indian Navy.

Dr Rizwana Abbasi argued that the Asian century is a reality. Russian influence is increasing in Eastern Europe, whereas China,  the US, and India are the dominating forces in the Indian Ocean.

IRS President  Ambassador Nadeem Riaz, while concluding the session, stated that India always considers the Indian Ocean as “India’s Ocean” and claims herself as a Net Security Provider backed by the US, which is contrary to the reality of the IOR maritime environment and against the overall strategic interests of the region. India’s intention to rule the Indian Ocean and its Hindutva thinking are major challenges not only for Pakistan but all littoral states of IOR.

The seminar was well attended by academia, professionals, students of universities, researchers of think tanks, and policymakers.
