Quetta: The Met Office has predicted predominantly chilly conditions across the majority of the province, with partly cloudy skies and notably cold weather expected in northern regions within the next 24 hours.

As per the Met Office, Quetta experienced a minimum temperature of -0.5 degrees Celsius, while Kalat recorded a chilling -2.5 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.

Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest province, showcases diverse and contrasting weather patterns owing to its vast terrain. The region encompasses deserts, plateaus, and mountain ranges, influencing a wide range of climatic conditions.

Balochistan in Winter

In general, Balochistan experiences extreme temperatures. Summers are scorching hot, particularly in the southern lowland areas like Sibi and Jacobabad, where temperatures can soar well above 40°C (104°F). The arid climate of these regions intensifies the heat, often accompanied by dry winds.

Conversely, winters in Balochistan can be bitterly cold, especially in the mountainous areas such as Quetta, Ziarat, and Kalat. Temperatures frequently drop below freezing, and snowfall is a common occurrence in these higher elevations during the winter months. Quetta, known for its chilly winters, can experience sub-zero temperatures, making it one of the coldest cities in Pakistan.

The province also sees regional variations in precipitation. Coastal areas like Gwadar experience minimal rainfall due to their arid climate, while the northern mountainous regions receive more precipitation, including snowfall during the winter season. The monsoon season, from July to September, brings some relief to certain parts of Balochistan, primarily the central and northern areas, with sporadic but crucial rainfall.

The diverse landscape of Balochistan contributes to its weather variability, making it a fascinating region where weather conditions can differ significantly across short distances. From the scorching heat of the deserts to the freezing cold of the mountains, Balochistan’s weather remains an intricate tapestry shaped by its geography and climatic influences.
