By-Elections Underway in Faisalabad, DG Khan

Faisalabad/DG Khan: Polling for by-elections in five constituencies of Faisalabad district — NA-96 (Faisalabad-II), NA-104 (Faisalabad-X), PP-98 (Faisalabad-I), PP-115 (Faisalabad-XVIII) and PP-116 (Faisalabad-XIX) — began here on Sunday.

According to a spokesman for the Election Commission, 16 candidates are contesting in NA-96, including PML-N backed candidate Muhammad Bilal Badar. In NA-104, five candidates are in the run, with PML-N nominee Raja Daniyal Ahmed among the contenders.

Similarly, 10 candidates are vying for PP-98, including PML-N’s Azad Ali Tabassum, while five candidates — including PML-N nominee Muhammad Tahir Pervaiz — are contesting in PP-115. In PP-116, seven candidates are in the field, with PML-N’s Rana Ahmed Shehryar Khan among them.

Polling commenced at 8 am and will continue uninterrupted until 5pm.

Tight Security as Polling Begins in NA-185 By-Election

Polling for the NA-185 by-election began here on Sunday under tight security arrangements.

Eight candidates are contesting the seat, with a tough contest expected between PPP’s Sardar Dost Muhammad Khosa and PML-N’s Sardar Mehmood Qadir Khan Leghari.

The Election Commission has set up 226 polling stations with 860 polling booths, including 434 for men and 426 for women. The constituency has 418,310 registered voters, comprising 222,392 men and 195,918 women.

According to the district administration, 4 polling stations have been declared highly sensitive, 53 sensitive, and 169 normal based on security assessments.

More than 3,000 police personnel — including Punjab Police, Elite Force, Lady Police, reserve platoons, RMP Force, Dolphin and Muhafiz squads — have been deployed to maintain law and order. The Pakistan Army and Punjab Rangers are also present as Quick Response Force.

Security monitoring has been strengthened through Safe City DG Khan, where a modern control room is providing live surveillance of polling stations, sensitive locations, major routes and patrol movements.

Polling, which started at 8am, will continue without break until 5 pm.
