Buffaloes for a Better Tomorrow: Punjab’s Vision for Rural Women Empowerment

Lahore: In a transformative step towards empowering rural women, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has launched a Rs. 2 billion livestock distribution project targeting 12 districts in South Punjab.
Under this initiative, 11,000 eligible women will receive buffaloes, cows, and goats free of cost, enabling them to earn a sustainable livelihood and achieve financial independence. The program also aims to enhance milk production through the distribution of high-quality breeds, contributing to rural economic growth.
The registration process, which ran from November 1 to November 16, witnessed overwhelming participation from rural women across districts including Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Layyah, Kot Addu, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Vehari, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, and Rahim Yar Khan.
Agriculture Department officials emphasized that the initiative seeks to uplift marginalized communities by providing a steady source of income to rural families. By rearing livestock, these women can secure financial stability for their households while contributing to local economies.
This livestock project is part of the government’s broader vision to promote rural development and create economic opportunities for underserved populations in Punjab.
