Blood Moon Rises Ohio Faces Cloudy Skies

Ohio: Skywatchers are set for a celestial spectacle today as the March 3, 2026 “Blood Moon” lights up the night sky. The total lunar eclipse promises a dramatic red glow as Earth’s shadow fully covers the moon, though visibility will depend heavily on location and local weather conditions.

Unlike a solar eclipse, a lunar eclipse does not follow a narrow “path of totality.” Instead, when conditions are right, the Earth’s shadow can blanket the entire moon, creating the striking crimson hue that gives the phenomenon its nickname, the Blood Moon.

However, not everyone around the globe will be able to witness the full event. For residents of Ohio, clear skies will be the deciding factor.

Forecasters warn that spring-like weather could complicate viewing plans. Rain is expected Monday night through Tuesday morning, potentially disrupting visibility during the peak hours of the eclipse.

According to the National Weather Service, cities including Canton, Cincinnati, Akron and Columbus are likely to experience cloudy skies, with chances of showers or fog developing after midnight.

The March full moon, traditionally known as the “Worm Moon”, will reach full illumination at 6:38 am ET on Tuesday. However, the most dramatic phase of the lunar eclipse will occur earlier, during the overnight hours.

Whether Ohioans catch a glimpse of the glowing red moon will ultimately depend on whether the clouds clear in time for the show.
