Beyond the Spray: Is ICT Winning the Dengue Fight?
News Desk
Islamabad: The Islamabad district administration has intensified its anti-dengue drive, conducting fumigation at 1,975 locations across the capital during the past 24 hours and deploying 15 new fogging machines to curb the spread of the virus.
The large-scale operation has been launched in response to rising dengue cases, with fumigation activities expanded to cover residential areas, parks, under-construction buildings, and open plots.
Officials confirmed that fogging has been completed in all localities where dengue-positive cases were recently reported.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad Irfan Memon directed field teams to double their daily shifts to ensure no area remains untreated.
He instructed field officers to fully implement dengue prevention measures in their respective zones and intensify actions against causes of mosquito breeding, including stagnant water, uncovered tanks, and unhygienic surroundings.
As part of enforcement efforts, 31 individuals were arrested during inspections of commercial areas, construction sites, and workshops for violating dengue Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
The DC also directed Assistant Commissioners to maintain strict monitoring of high-risk areas and take legal action against violators.
Officials said the district administration is coordinating closely with the health department to ensure timely fogging, larvicidal spray, and public awareness campaigns in vulnerable areas.
Field teams have been instructed to conduct door-to-door inspections, eliminate breeding sites, and educate citizens about preventive measures.
DC Memon urged residents to cooperate by keeping their surroundings clean, draining stagnant water, and covering water containers. He encouraged citizens to immediately report mosquito breeding sites or suspected cases through the administration’s helpline.
The administration has also mobilized sanitation and health teams in coordination with union councils to monitor water bodies, construction zones, and green belts. Daily progress reports are being compiled to identify and respond to new high-risk areas.
Officials emphasized that continuous monitoring and community participation are vital to reducing dengue cases in the federal capital. The intensified fogging operations and enforcement drives will continue until the dengue threat subsides, with special focus on high-density localities to ensure the safety and well-being of residents.
