Basant Fever Grips Walled City as 22,000 Rooftops Get Booked

Lahore: The district administration has completed arrangements to celebrate Basant on 22,000 rooftops across the Walled City, while celebrations have been banned on 254 dilapidated buildings due to safety concerns.

Officials said the main official Basant event will be held at the Royal Fort. As part of preparations for the festival, rooftop bookings have begun, with rental prices ranging from Rs2 million to Rs2.5 million for the event period.

According to Walled City administration statistics, Basant festivities will take place on 22,000 rooftops in the inner city. However, celebrations have been strictly prohibited on the rooftops of 254 buildings declared structurally unsafe.

Sources said rooftop bookings at prominent havelis have attracted high rates. The roof of Asif Jan Haveli in Chuna Mandi is reportedly being booked for Rs1.5 million for three days, while Mian Sali Haveli is also being rented at the same price.

Rooftops of Mubarak Haveli, Nisar Haveli, Alif Shah Haveli, Cocoz Haveli, Haveli Mian Khan, Haveli Mian Ji Sultan and Haveli Brod Khan are being offered for up to Rs2.5 million.

Director General Walled City Authority Najam Saqib said comprehensive arrangements are underway to ensure a safe Basant festival. He reiterated that celebrations would not be allowed on the rooftops of dilapidated buildings under any circumstances.
