Baahubali Returns — But Not How You Expect

News Desk

Mumbai: The saga of Baahubali is far from over. The makers of the blockbuster franchise have dropped the first teaser for their next chapter, “Baahubali: The Eternal War,” promising to expand the epic universe in a stunning new 3D animated format.

The upcoming film is directed by Ishan Shukla, best known for his work on Star Wars: Visions and The Bandits of Golak.

“Amarendra Baahubali’s death wasn’t his end; it was the beginning of something Eternal (sic),” reads the official teaser description, hinting at a continuation of the beloved hero’s legacy.

Filmmaker SS Rajamouli, who created the iconic two-part Baahubali series, clarified during promotions for Baahubali: The Epic that this project is not a third live-action installment.

“The rumour is that we are announcing Baahubali 3, but that’s not true,” Rajamouli said. “It’s a continuation of the Baahubali world — an animated film. We released a 2D show on Amazon, and this one will be a 3D animation.”

Rajamouli praised producer Shobu Yarlagadda for conceiving the idea of extending the universe through animation. “Shobu has been exploring ways to take the Baahubali world forward beyond the ultimate Baahubali 3,” he noted.

He added, “He met a young and talented animation director, Ishan Shukla, who came up with a fresh idea — the same characters, but from a different tangent. I really liked it.”

According to Rajamouli, the project has been in development for over two and a half years, with an estimated budget of Rs 120 crore.

With Baahubali: The Eternal War, the legendary kingdom of Mahishmati prepares to rise again — this time in breathtaking animated glory.
