Asim Munir Engages US, German Officials in Munich

Rawalpindi: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, visited Germany from February 12 to 14 to attend meetings on the sidelines of the 62nd Munich Security Conference.

According to a news release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the COAS interacted with a number of international dignitaries during the visit and discussed matters of mutual interest.

On the sidelines of the conference, he met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The discussions focused on global and regional security dynamics, as well as cooperation in counterterrorism efforts.

During his engagements with German authorities, the COAS called on Alexander Dobrindt, Federal Minister of the Interior of the Federal Republic of Germany; Günter Sautter, Foreign and Security Policy Advisor to the German Federal Chancellor; and General Carsten Breuer, Chief of Defence of the Federal Armed Forces.

The meetings covered contemporary security challenges, bilateral defence cooperation, and the importance of promoting global peace and stability through both bilateral and multilateral dialogue, the ISPR statement said.

The COAS also held a productive engagement with Admiral Renato Rodrigues de Aguiar Freire, Chief of the Joint Staff of the Brazilian Armed Forces, where bilateral military cooperation was discussed.

In addition, General Rodolph Haykal, Commander of the Armed Forces of the Lebanese Republic, called on the COAS. During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on the global and regional security environment and explored avenues to enhance bilateral defence collaboration.

The visit underscores Pakistan’s continued diplomatic and military engagement with key international partners on issues of mutual strategic importance.
