Asia Cup 2025 to Begin on Sept 9 in UAE under Hybrid Model

News Desk

Lahore: The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has officially announced that the 17th edition of the Asia Cup will take place from September 9 to 28, 2025, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) under a hybrid model.

Although India is the designated host, the entire tournament will be played in the UAE due to the continued reluctance of India and Pakistan to play on each other’s soil. The competition will be held in the Twenty20 format, aligning with preparations for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

Eight teams will participate in this edition: India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, UAE, Hong Kong, and Oman. Group A comprises India, Pakistan, UAE, and Oman, while Group B includes Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Hong Kong.

The much-anticipated clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan is scheduled for September 14 during the group stage, with the possibility of a rematch on September 21 during the Super Four phase.

The tournament will kick off with a Group B match between Afghanistan and Hong Kong on September 9, while the final group-stage encounter will see India face Oman on September 19.

As per the format, the top two teams from each group will advance to the Super Four stage, followed by a round-robin series. The top two teams from the Super Four will then face off in the final.

ACC President Mohsin Naqvi confirmed the tournament dates in an official post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), stating:

“I am delighted to confirm the dates for the ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2025 in UAE.

The prestigious tournament will take place from September 9th to 28th. We look forward to a spectacular display of cricket. Detailed schedule will be out soon.”

The complete tournament schedule was released later in the evening.
