Arabian Sea Cyclone Shakti Turns Severe, PMD Warns

Karachi: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Saturday reported that Cyclone Shakti, developing over the Arabian Sea, has intensified into a severe cyclonic storm.
According to the PMD’s Tropical Cyclone Warning Centre, this is the seventh alert issued regarding the system. The cyclone currently lies about 322 kilometres south-southwest of Karachi.

The weather advisory stated that Shakti is expected to move west and southwest over the next 24 hours before gradually changing direction towards the east and northeast, where it is likely to weaken.
The PMD has forecast light to moderate rain and thunderstorms in parts of Sindh’s coastal districts, including Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, and Jamshoro, while Karachi may also experience isolated rainfall.
Fishermen have been advised to avoid deep-sea activities until October 5 due to potentially rough sea conditions caused by the storm.
