Peshawar: Another case of polio has been reported in the Kohat district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, raising the total number of cases in the country to 23 this year.

The National Institute of Health (NIH) confirmed that a ten-month-old girl from the Paya area of Darra Adamkhel tehsil has tested positive for the poliovirus. This marks the second polio case reported in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in 2024.

The child’s blood samples were sent to NIH, where the presence of the poliovirus was confirmed.

Despite the recent nationwide anti-polio campaign, which vaccinated around 33 million children under five across 115 districts, this new case has emerged in Kohat.

Authorities remain committed to continuing their efforts under the Polio Eradication Program to curb the spread of the virus.
