Karak: At least three personnel of the Federal Constabulary (FC) were martyred when an ambulance carrying injured security men came under a terrorist attack in the Badrakhail area of Karak, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, police said on Monday.

According to the district police officer (DPO), the personnel had earlier been injured in a quadcopter strike on an FC post in the Dargah Shaheedan area. They were being shifted to a hospital for treatment when militants targeted the ambulance.

At least five FC personnel were wounded in the initial quadcopter attack, while two rescue workers were also injured in the subsequent assault on the ambulance, the DPO added.

Following the incident, police launched a search and clearance operation in the area to apprehend those responsible. Investigations are underway.

Rising Cross-Border Tension

The attack comes amid a surge in terrorist incidents in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan since the Afghan Taliban regained control of Afghanistan in 2021.

In response to recent suicide attacks, Pakistan carried out intelligence-based strikes targeting seven camps and hideouts of Fitna al Khawarij (FAK), its affiliates, and Daesh-Khorasan along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

Security sources said the airstrikes were conducted in Nangarhar, Paktika and Khost provinces of Afghanistan on Sunday morning, killing more than 80 militants.

The targeted sites included “New Centre No. 1 and New Centre No. 2 in Nangarhar, Khwariji Maulvi Abbas Centre in Khost, Khwariji Islam Centre, Khwariji Ibrahim Centre in Nangarhar, and Khwariji Mullah Rahbar and Khwariji Mukhlis Yar in Paktika.”

Islamabad has repeatedly urged the Afghan Taliban authorities to take action against militant groups operating from Afghan territory. However, Kabul has largely remained unresponsive.

In October 2025, border clashes erupted after Afghan Taliban fighters and militants launched attacks on Pakistani border posts. More than 200 Taliban and affiliated militants were reportedly killed in the ensuing fighting, while 23 Pakistani soldiers were martyred.

Pakistan also conducted precision strikes targeting militant hideouts in Kandahar and Kabul provinces. Despite multiple rounds of talks, both sides failed to reach a ceasefire, with Islamabad accusing the Afghan Taliban regime of reluctance in curbing terrorist outfits.

Five Militants Killed in Pishin IBO

Separately, five terrorists were killed during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Balochistan’s Pishin district, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Monday.

The military’s media wing said troops effectively engaged the “entire tashkeel with multiple weapons,” leading to an intense exchange of fire. A suicide bomber detonated himself during the operation, while four other alleged India-sponsored militants were killed.

Weapons, ammunition and explosives were recovered from the slain militants, who were reportedly involved in multiple terrorist activities in the area. Sanitisation operations were ongoing to eliminate any remaining militants.

The ISPR said the security forces’ counter-terrorism drive under the vision of Azm-e-Istehkam would continue at full pace to eradicate foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country.

Recent BLA Attacks and Operation Raddul Fitna

Earlier this month, India-backed Fitna al-Hindustan — Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) carried out coordinated attacks across Balochistan. According to the ISPR, 36 civilians, including women, and 22 security personnel were martyred in those incidents.

In response, security forces launched Operation Raddul Fitna 1, eliminating at least 216 militants in coordinated engagements and clearance operations.

On January 31, militants targeted civilians in Quetta, Mastung, Nushki, Dalbandin, Kharan, Panjgur, Tump, Gwadar and Pasni.

The attacks drew widespread international condemnation from the United States, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkiye, Iran, the UAE, France, Canada, the European Union, the OIC and the UN Security Council.

Authorities have reiterated their resolve to continue operations until militancy is eliminated from the affected regions.
