Muzaffargarh: An international car racer is set to make his maiden appearance among several Pakistani speed masters, gearing up to demonstrate their skills on a 195-kilometer-long sandy route to claim the crown in the 9th Annual Thal Jeep Rally, beginning on Thursday.

The four-day colorful event will culminate with the main races on Nov 9 and 10 from Muzaffargarh to Layyah via Kot Addu and back to the start point.

Event Manager Nauman and senior TDCP official Misbah Ishaq said that all arrangements are in place, adding that 50-55 car racers have registered, with the list expected to grow as registration continues until the evening of Nov 7.

Asif Ali, a British national of Pakistani origin, will join the stock category race on Nov 9 after participating in the qualifying round scheduled for Nov 8. Asif has customized his race car in Pakistan and will be here to compete, said Nauman.

While racers navigate the oval-shaped race route, cultural events and games, including tent pegging, spear throw, Kabaddi, Mushaira, and performances by noted folk singers like Arif Lohar, will entertain the audience in Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, and Layyah.

The race track from Muzaffargarh to Tehsil Chobara in Layyah via Kot Addu spans 100 kilometers, with a return route that differs slightly. The race will begin from Changa Manga Mound at Head Muhammad Wala in Muzaffargarh.

On Nov 7, Thursday, the process of registration, tagging, technical inspection, and medical inspection will run from 9 am to 3 pm. The qualifying round at Changa Manga Mound in Muzaffargarh on Nov 8 will determine the racers’ starting order.

Race contests will be held across thirteen different categories, and the event will highlight Punjab’s culture through buggy rides, Jhoomer dance, and school children performances.

Meanwhile, DPO Muzaffargarh Syed Husnain Haidar noted that 863 constables, 93 head constables, 90 ASIs, 63 sub-inspectors, and fifteen inspectors will provide security, overseen by six Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs), ensuring a safe event for racers and spectators.
