Pakistan AFL Women’s Team Trials for Asia Cup in Vietnam

Islamabad: Over 50 dedicated athletes recently participated in trials for the Pakistan AFL Women’s Team, vying for a spot to represent Pakistan at the Australian Football League (AFL) Asia Cup in Vietnam, scheduled from December 6 to 8.

The selection process, supervised by Chief Selector Abid Hussain, included notable players such as Chaman Mushtaq, Hina, Oruj, Tehmina, Salma Jabeen, Hajra Shakeel, Syeda Tasneem, Mah Noor Alam, Maryam Mukhtar, Zubia Malik, Salsabil, Hajra Bibi, Noor Taebir, Sameena, Nadia Zafar, Umaira Arshad, Asma Khan, Arj Altaf, Sabina, Farzana Batool, Nazia Batool, Farhat, Asbo Saeed, Ghazala, Nilofar, Rabia, Kakhashan, Nazesh, Noreen Baig, and Saba Yasin.

Following the trials, a 30-member squad will be selected, of which 15 players will participate in the Vietnam tournament.

Under Head Coach Michael Gilles, the shortlisted team will enter an intensive training session in Islamabad starting next week. Both Pakistan’s men’s and women’s teams are set to compete among 16 teams globally, including the Indian team.

After the trials, Pakistan AFL Secretary General Chaudhry Zulfiqar and Director of the Women’s Wing Irfan Khan emphasized the dedication shown by the players despite limited resources.

They appealed to the government and Pakistan Sports Complex for support to ensure the teams are well-prepared for the Asia Cup competition.
