Islamabad: The Senate on Sunday unanimously passed the Societies Registration (Amendment) Bill, 2024, paving the way for the registration of Deeni Madaris under a new enactment designed to monitor their activities.

Minister for Law and Justice, Azam Nazeer Tarar, presented the bill, which amends the Societies Registration Act of 1860, to the House. The bill aims to ensure proper oversight of religious institutions, addressing long-standing concerns about their regulation.

According to the statement of objects and reasons, while Deeni Madaris play a vital role in religious education, their activities need to be monitored through proper legislation to ensure compliance with national laws.

The amendment is seen as a crucial step towards bringing these institutions under legal scrutiny.
