Multan: Pakistan was all out for 366 runs in their first innings on the second day of the second Test against England, being played in Multan on Wednesday.
Earlier in the day, Pakistan’s lower-order batsmen had put up a resilient fight, reaching 358-8 at lunch after England claimed three early wickets.
All-rounder Aamer Jamal and Noman Ali managed to frustrate England’s bowling attack, contributing an unbroken partnership of 49 runs for the ninth wicket, finishing on 37 and 29 runs, respectively.
Resuming their innings at 259-5, Pakistan faced early setbacks as the reused Multan Stadium pitch not only offered some spin but also aided the seamers in extracting reverse swing.
Brydon Carse struck first for England, dismissing Mohammad Rizwan for 41 in the third over of the day, with Rizwan hitting five boundaries during his innings.
Carse’s fellow seamer, Matthew Potts, followed up with another crucial wicket, forcing an edge from Salman Agha, who scored 31, leaving Pakistan at 302-7.
Spinner Jack Leach then took his third wicket, dismissing Sajid Khan for just two runs, caught at short cover by Joe Root.
Debutant Kamran Ghulam had anchored Pakistan’s innings with a century on the first day. England currently leads the three-match series 1-0, following their innings victory in the first Test, also held in Multan.
