Rawalpindi: Rawalpindi police are implementing stringent measures against unfit Public Service Vehicles (PSVs).

According to a police spokesman, a special campaign launched across the Rawalpindi district has led to the issuance of challan slips to 2,786 PSVs and the impounding of 346 vehicles over the past 13 days.

The campaign resulted in fines exceeding Rs. 2.9 million for rule violations. Police are enforcing the law by inspecting vehicle fitness, route permits, and driver licenses.

Legal action has been taken against 185 drivers for operating vehicles without licenses, and 23 licenses were canceled due to negligence. Additionally, 26 cases have been registered against drivers and PSV owners.

Efforts are also being made to ensure safe travel on PSVs, with checks on vehicle travel times and legal action planned for those endangering public safety.

The campaign extends to bus terminal managers and PSV owners found negligent. A special squad from the City Traffic Police is inspecting vehicles at bus terminals, and an awareness campaign for citizens and drivers has been launched.
