Torrential RainTurns Bahawalpur Streets into Canals

News Desk

Bahawalpur: Torrential monsoon rains lashed Bahawalpur city and adjoining areas between Friday night and Saturday, causing severe disruption.

The downpour overwhelmed the city’s sewerage system, turning roads and streets into canals. Reports indicate that some mud houses in slum areas collapsed or were damaged due to the heavy rains. Main roads, including Fareed Gate, Circular Road, Chowk Fawara, Satellite Town, Commercial Area, Railway Station area, Shahdra, and others, were inundated, with rainwater entering houses and shops in downtown areas.

Previous district management meetings had highlighted that shopkeepers often disposed of garbage into drains, blocking them and exacerbating rainwater accumulation on roads.

In response to the flooding, teams from the Municipal Corporation Bahawalpur, District Council Bahawalpur, and Bahawalpur Waste Management Company were actively engaged in draining the water from the roads using de-watering machines.
