ICC Finalizes World Cup 2024 Playing Conditions

News Desk

Islamabad: During the recent International Cricket Council (ICC) board meeting, several significant decisions were made regarding the playing conditions of the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2024.

A notable decision was the mandatory introduction of a stop clock between overs in white-ball cricket, effective immediately. This measure is aimed at improving the pace and efficiency of the game.

The T20 World Cup is starting from June 2024.

The stop clock rule will be implemented permanently in all One Day Internationals (ODIs) and Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).

According to the ICC’s directive, the second over must commence within one minute of the completion of the preceding over in both ODIs and T20Is.

Furthermore, the ICC announced the qualification process for the T20 World Cup 2026 edition.

The qualifying phase will involve 20 teams vying for a spot in the tournament.

Additionally, it was decided that the T20 World Cup 2026 will be jointly hosted by Sri Lanka and India, with 12 teams earning direct qualification.

In another decision aimed at enhancing the tournament’s integrity and scheduling, a reserve day was approved for the semi-finals and final of the T20 World Cup 2024.

Moreover, to ensure fair completion of matches, specific criteria were set for both group stage and knockout matches.

In the group stage, it is mandatory to complete at least 5 overs in the second innings, while in the knockout stage, a minimum of 10 overs in the second innings are required to constitute a completed match.
