Age No Barrier: 63-Year-Old Enrolls in Primary School

Peshawar: Age is no barrier to learning, a truth exemplified by Dilawar Khan, a 63-year-old resident of Lower Dir, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
Despite his ripe age, Dilawar felt the significance of education and chose to join the ranks of young students in a primary school in his village, Khongi, to grasp the fundamental lessons of reading and writing.
Wearing a white cap that matches his beard, Dilawar Khan doesn’t shy away from attending second-grade classes at Khongi Primary School in Low Dir. His belief is simple: education knows no bounds of age.
Recalling past experiences, Dilawar shared that he yearned for an education during his childhood but was restrained by his father, a humble person striving to involve him in labor to support the family financially.
His thirst for learning reignited during a four-month spiritual journey for Tableegh (preaching). “During my mosque stay, I realized my inability to recite the Holy Quran and engage with the Tableegh book of Hadiths,” Dilawar expressed to the media in his hometown.

“Midway through my four-month journey, I resolved that upon return, I’d enroll in school and learn the basics of reading and writing.”
Approaching the school teachers in his village, Dilawar expressed his fervent desire to learn. The school administration, inspired by his dedication, offered him admission at the primary level.
Starting his educational journey, Dilawar surprised both the villagers and his younger classmates. Initially, sitting among minors and engaging in their lessons seemed peculiar. Yet, his determination to overcome his lack of education prevailed, pushing him to continue learning.
In his first year at school, Dilawar absorbed a wealth of knowledge, progressing to reading. Now in the second grade, he focuses on honing his reading skills and mastering writing.
Delighted by his initiative, Dilawar finds joy in finally being able to read the Holy Quran and Hadith books. To those who missed out on education in their youth, he extends a powerful message: age should never deter one’s pursuit of knowledge.
He encourages them to embrace learning without concern for age, urging them to enroll in schools and grasp the basics of reading and writing.
