Islamabad: In the midst of the ongoing Israeli-Hamas conflict, Arab leaders and foreign ministers of Muslim countries are turning to China for diplomatic intervention. A delegation comprising foreign ministers from the Palestinian Authority, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, and Indonesia, along with the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), is engaging with Chinese officials to explore avenues for a Gaza ceasefire.

The rejection of Israel’s self-defense claims during the recent Arab-Islamic summit has prompted leaders to seek assistance from China and other global powers. Large-scale demonstrations in Muslim countries are intensifying pressure on governments to prioritize stopping Israeli attacks, with concerns about potential extremist reactions if leaders fail to act.

The geographical proximity of Arab countries to both Israel and Palestine presents a unique challenge. Delicate diplomatic relations with Israel are now under evaluation in the context of the ongoing conflict.

The recent US President’s visit to Israel, deviating from expectations, created an impression of US support for Israel. This stance led to the cancellation of scheduled meetings with regional leaders, further isolating the United States in the eyes of some Middle Eastern nations.

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is becoming a divisive global issue, especially among emerging powers in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. The crisis is widening the gap between the North and the South, raising concerns among European allies about respecting international law and human rights.

Saudi Arabia, a key player in the Islamic world, is pressuring the US and Israel to halt the Gaza fighting. The response from Israel and the US is seen as a potential indicator of future divergences in their relations.

China, positioning itself as a “good friend and brother” to Arab and Muslim countries, is offering strong support for the restoration of the legitimate national rights of the Palestinian people. China’s consistent calls for de-escalation and a two-state solution highlight its diplomatic stance. President Xi Jinping’s diplomatic efforts challenge the influence of the US and its allies, framing China as a crucial player in the international system.

As the Muslim world recognizes the need to assert itself on the global stage, China’s unwavering support could reshape the narrative surrounding Israel’s actions, prompting international actors to reevaluate their positions in the face of the ongoing conflict.

In essence, the quest for Chinese involvement reflects the growing frustration among Arab and Muslim nations with the international response to the conflict. The failure of traditional diplomatic channels and the perceived bias in favor of Israel have pushed these nations to seek alternative avenues for a meaningful resolution.

China’s emergence as a mediator introduces a new dynamic to the geopolitical landscape of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The nation’s historic ties with Arab countries and its diplomatic prowess position it as a potential broker for peace in the region. The Arab leaders’ willingness to engage with China underscores the shifting alliances and the quest for a multipolar approach to conflict resolution.

The situation also underscores the changing dynamics of global power, with emerging nations like China playing an increasingly influential role in addressing longstanding conflicts. China’s commitment to supporting the Palestinian cause aligns with its broader diplomatic strategy to enhance its influence on the world stage.
