978-Acre Forest to Combat Lahore’s Air Pollution

Islamabad: The Punjab government has initiated an ambitious reforestation campaign, aiming to establish a natural forest on 978 acres along the banks of the Ravi River.
The project is designed to act as a natural air filter for Lahore and help combat rising air pollution.
Officials report that 144 acres have already been planted with 105,000 trees, with further afforestation efforts underway. The campaign targets the plantation of 634,000 trees, creating a “green wall” around Lahore and transforming it into an “oxygen hub.”
Senior Punjab Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb underscored the importance of afforestation in tackling smog and rising temperatures, emphasizing that the initiative will contribute to a healthier environment for Lahore’s residents.
She urged citizens to actively participate by planting at least one tree, highlighting the collective responsibility of making Lahore smog-free.
Authorities view the 978-acre green belt as a significant step towards addressing pollution and climate-related challenges, offering a sustainable solution for the city’s environmental future.
