6.1-Magnitude Quake Rattles Islamabad, AJK
News Desk
Islamabad: Strong earthquake tremors were felt in Islamabad and surrounding areas on Thursday, causing panic among residents.
According to the seismic centre, the earthquake measured 6.1 on the Richter scale and struck at a depth of 159 kilometres.
The tremors were widely felt across northern and northeastern Pakistan, including Rawalpindi, Swat, Malakand, Muzaffarabad, Gilgit, Skardu, and Abbottabad.
Residents reported noticeable shaking in both Azad Jammu and Kashmir and areas of Indian-administered Kashmir.
Authorities have not yet reported any casualties or significant damage, but residents in high-rise buildings in Islamabad and Rawalpindi rushed outdoors as a precaution.
Seismologists advised people to remain alert for aftershocks, noting that earthquakes at such depth can be widely felt but often cause less surface damage.
Emergency services are monitoring the situation across affected regions, and local authorities have urged citizens to follow safety guidelines and remain calm.
