Peshawar: Flash floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have claimed at least 380 lives, with dozens still missing, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported on Monday.
According to the PDMA’s latest report, 380 people have died and 295 have been injured during the past two days of torrential rains and flooding. The highest number of missing persons—150—was reported from Buner district.
Among the deceased are 279 men, 15 women, and 13 children. The floods also damaged 74 houses, of which 11 were completely destroyed and 63 partially damaged.
Rescue teams reported that more than 400 schoolchildren were safely evacuated from Pir Baba, Buner. In Mingora, Swat, multiple homes collapsed, leaving many residents homeless amid debris and scattered boulders.
Relief and evacuation efforts are underway in affected districts. Helicopters have been deployed to deliver food and other emergency supplies to stranded families.
Meanwhile, the floods have severely disrupted health services. According to PDMA, 21 hospitals were partially damaged and one was completely destroyed, hampering medical aid delivery.
So far, 289 medical camps have been established in flood-hit areas, where 5,627 patients were treated in the last 24 hours, most of them children, women, and elderly people.
The PDMA confirmed 354 cases of infectious diseases in Swat and other districts. These include 194 cases of respiratory infections, 140 cases of diarrhea, eight cases of scabies, and eight cases of dysentery. No deaths from infectious diseases have been reported so far.
In Bajaur, 26 patients were registered, mostly suffering from respiratory illnesses and diarrhea. Swat remains the worst-hit district both in terms of flood damage and public health cases.
